RJM PBC/6x Pedaltrain Novo 24 Build

While they aren’t flashy, its still pretty hard to beat a Pedaltrain. They’re light, bulletproof, and from a pedalboard builder’s perspective they’re great to work with as you can fit a lot underneath them, and the large channels make running cabling underneath them a breeze. You know what is flashy? The RJM Mastermind PBC/6x and the pedals Zach selected to include on this board!

The signal chain starts with a custom side junction comprised of a BTPA two port D hole connector panel in which I put a locking TS thru jack for the guitar input which prevents your cable from being accidentally removed, and a usb thru for easily connecting the PBC/6x to a CPU for editing.

Guitar Input, USB thru, Audition/FX Loop and Stereo Ouputs all easily accessible

From there it hits the Goodwood Interfacer where it splits out to the Sonic Research Tuner and to the PBC/6x. Thanks to the PBC’s ability to split its stereo loops, and insert loop to dual mono I was able to get some extra stuff inside the PBC which is extremely advantageous as it allows for the reordering of the signal path in addition to all the positives of a traditional switcher.

Inside the RJM PBC/6x we have:

  • Barber Tone Press Compressor

  • EHX POG2

  • Jackson Audio Prism

  • JHS Superbolt

  • Browne Protein (split via TRS to allow the two sides to each have their own loop)

  • Chase Bliss Mood

  • Walrus Julianna (in stereo)

  • Dunlop DVP4 Volume Pedal

  • Goodwood Audition

Before we get onto the wet effects we have to talk about the inclusion of the Goodwood Audition. I was able to mount this underneath and on the side of the board. This little box is awesome and it not only allows you to route in a new pedal but also has a dc power output to power whatever pedal you’re auditioning. Because it is in the PBC/6x, Zach is able to move the pedal he’s audition around his signal chain. As a bonus, you can also use the Audition as an FX loop or to add a whole second board to your signal path.

As we exit the PBC/6x we hit three proven Strymon powerhouses:

  • Strymon El Capistan v2

  • Strymon Timeline Delay

  • Strymon Bigsky Reverb

From there we hit the stereo returns of the interfacer and head out the pedalboard through its stereo locking TS output jacks which once again prevent cables from being pulled out accidentally.

Lest we forget who’s really doing the dirty work here, the board is powered by a Strymon Zuma and Ojai and there is also a Disaster Area Midi Box 4 underneath the board which allows both the El Capistan and Mood to have full midi functionality.

Long story short, this is an absolute powerhouse of a board with a versatile drive section, beautiful warbles from the Julianna, the beautiful textures of the Chase Bliss Mood, and the tried and true delays and reverbs of a powerful Strymon trio all of which are controlled via midi and the PBC/6x. I definitely spent waaaaay longer programming this than I needed to because it was just so fun to play.
